A List Of Interesting Descriptive Essay Topics For Third Grade

A teacher knows how important essays are for children in the third grade. These encourage the young person to be expressive and also be curious about the world. One challenge is that a child between the ages of nine and ten years old does have limits on writing ability. They cannot be expected to write the high school level because that is not fair. There are some very descriptive essay topics that are interesting which a teacher may assign to a class of third-graders. They include the following:

  • If a genie gave you only one wish what would it be?
  • Of all the books we read so far this year, which one did you enjoy the most, and why?
  • If someone you loved was afraid of something how would you help them get over that fear?
  • If your mother was feeling sick, what are all the things you would do to help her and why would you do them?
  • What you think is the best pet for a boy or girl your age? Explain why you feel that way.
  • If you could go anywhere in the world for vacation where would that be? Describe what you would see.
  • Let us suppose that you are given a basket of seeds to plant. What type of plants would you like to see come out of the ground?
  • What do you think is the best birthday present you could possibly give your mother?
  • What frightens you the most at night and why does it scare you?
  • Suppose you went to bed tonight and woke up tomorrow as an adult. What are some things you would do first of all?
  • Why is important to have a few good friends?
  • Beside your bedroom, what is your favorite room in the place where you live? Why is that?

These are topics that gently challenge the young learner to put thoughts to paper. A teacher must always keep in mind that whatever is written is important to the child. There is no reason to be sarcastic or overly critical. It is at this point in life where a young person is beginning to take notice of the world all around. Good descriptive essays are way of encouraging third-graders to explore even more. It is by using topics that are easy for them to expand on, allowing them to express their opinions, that a teacher can encourage curiosity and promote awareness of the environment at the same time.
